The Capital Region (CR) as Part of the Northern California Megaregion
The Northern California Megaregion is composed of 21 counties grouped into 4 regions:
- The Bay Area
- Sacramento Area (Capital Region), including the beautiful Sierra Foothills and Lake Tahoe area
- Northern San Joaquin Valley
- Monterey Bay Area
The Northern California Megaregion is one of the three fastest growing mega-regional economies in the United States and home to over 12 million people. The CR is experiencing a profound shift in its competitive position, thanks in large part to an influx of entrepreneurs, businesses, creative professionals, and a highly-educated STEM-driven talent base.
As part of the megaregion, the CR is increasingly connected to the technology, entrepreneurial and venture capital power house that is the Bay Area. Moreover, many of the iconic technology companies with a significant presence in the Bay Area have introduced plans and strategies related to either augmented reality or virtual reality. Their locational proximity to the CR makes it convenient for them to participate on-site in various Capital Region AR VR Accelerator activities and events.
The Capital Region
An Extension of the Bay Area
The Capital Region is emerging as an integrated part of an extended San Francisco/Silicon Valley Bay Area but at a fraction of the cost! The location of the Accelerator makes it a much easier commute for faculty, advisors, mentors, corporations, and investors to participate in the CR AR VR Accelerator than if it were located virtually anywhere else.
Importantly, the Capital Region possesses existing sports and entertainment businesses, corporations, venture capital funds, healthcare institutions, technology companies and governmental entities that provide a unique test-bed for participating cohort companies to secure early pilot customers or partners for their young ventures.
